Knocknacarra Tournament
The Hodson Bay Celtic Lions U11 boys were invited up to play in the Knocknacarra tournament with teams from Dublin Galway Limerick and Mayo all attending we knew this was going to be a tough day.
The lads topped their group with three free-scoring wins scoring 21 goals whilst only conceding 1 goal - impressive. These results put the lads into quarter final vs the host team Knocknacarra. ⚽️⚽️⚽️
Knocknacarra are a strong side and the boys were defeated by them in the semi-final of the Mullingar tournament last September so we knew we were in for a tough battle.
The game finished 0-0 and went to extra-time. Extra-time produced high drama and excitement especially in the last five minutes when Hodson Bay conceded to go 1-0 down, this team however are resilient, and the response was almost immediate with the away team scoring an equaliser courtesy of the excellent Seanie Mac. This wasn't the end of this intriguing battle as Rian Fallon was score with seconds left to put Hodson Bay 2-1 up. The hosts however weren't finished and unbelievably Knocknacarra conjured up an equaliser with the last kick of game - what drama 2-2. This quarter final was to be decided by the dreaded penalties. Thomas Egan was the hero in the penalty kicks with two super saves - onto the semi-final..

In the semi-final the boys faced Westport. Westport settled quickest and scored to take the lead, this spurred the Hodson Bay lads into action and the boys settled into game. Dillo pulled us level with a thunderbolt. At the end of normal time the score was 1-1 and this encounter was also to go into extra time. Neither team produced a goal in extra time so it was penalties again for the second time and again Thomas pulled off a super save to spark wild celebrations.
Into the final... πŸ‘βš½οΈπŸ₯…
The final was against a strong Salthill Devon side and this was to prove a bridge too far for the boys as a much stronger team beat the lads 4-1 with Patrick Collins scoring the goal for the Hodson Bay boysπŸ‘
What a run by these brilliant 10 boys.
Thomas had a super day in goal, one he'll remember forever. Rian and Dillo were outstanding in defence. Seanie Mac and Bretsie were on fire and Patrick and Rocket were fantastic as usual with excellent link up play throughout. Jack, Emmet and Sean McGorisk all played brilliantly and played a major role in the team progressing to final.
"Our play on the day was a joy to watch. Massive thanks to Terry who was a great help on the day and who the boys adore, Thanks to the parents of the boys Lions and Tigers for your considerable help and support throughout the 2018/19 season, enjoy the summer and we look forward to the 2019/20 season commencing in August. I'm so proud of all the boys who will never give up.
The boys were shattered, soaked and emotional after the final but they represented our club with such pride and all at Hodson Bay Celtic are so proud of these lads."
